Ageria, Paros Island |
The nice village of Agaeria is situated at a distance of some 12,5 kilometers far from the town of Paros (Paroikia). It is an inland village, but it is found only 2 kilometers far from the sea. The settlement is built in an area with luxuriant green and counts less than 300 permanent residents. Accommodation is not easy to find within the village, but the nearby tourist resort of Alyki, fully developed in accommodation facilities, may cover any need in lodging. |

Once in the village it is worth seeing the church of Aghios Georgios and the Wars’ Memorial, beside the town hall. If you like walking, you may visit the Holy Monastery of Aghioi Theodori, at a distance of 4 kilometers Northeastern to the village. Apart from the scenic landscape, you will enjoy the warm hospitality and cordial welcome of the monks living in the monastery. If you feel like continuing your wandering, you may walk for another 1,5 kilometer, up to the small church of Aghios Georgios (St. George). There, apart from the church itself, you will see the stone tomb of a heroic young man, Nicolaos Stellas who was executed at the age of 19, by the German troops in 1944 during the German occupation of the island. Further away, always on foot, you may visit the Monastery of Aghios Ioannis Spiliotis (St. John). |
